Gibson Don Felder Hotel California 1959 Les Paul Standard Aged

Check out this amazing piece of Rock 'n Roll history: the Gibson Don Felder “Hotel California” 1959 Les Paul Standard Aged! This beauty has the serial number Felder 062 and the guitar has been stored in its case by a serious collector, so it's in absolute MINT condition. And now it's your chance to own it. Hotel California is among the most well-known rock songs ever, written by one of the most successful bands in the history of music. Don Felder's playing and tone was of the utmost importance for their sound and his 1959 Les Paul Standard played a huge role in this. To commemorate this significant guitar, Gibson Custom Shop recreated Felder's '59 in 2010 as a Limited Edition model which was released in three tiers, with 50 guitars hand-aged by Gibson Custom and personally signed by Don Felder, 100 hand-aged, and a further 150 given Gibson's VOS treatment. This example we managed to get our hands on is one of the hand-aged variants.

By painstakingly looking at the original, the Gibson Custom Shop was able to meticulously rebuild Felder's own '59 Les Paul. Everything is just right about this guitar: the hand-aging, faded “Felder Burst” finish, a specially selected figured maple top with a solid one-piece mahogany back and one-piece mahogany neck with a neck carve that is true to the original . Even the pickups are as close as possible to the original. As Felder once stated, the pickups in his '59 Les Paul had an incredibly high output and to reproduce these characteristics, Gibson chose to fit the Hotel California '59 with a BurstBucker 2 in the neck position and a BurstBucker 1 in the bridge position. The top-notch CTS pots and bumble bee tone capacitors also stay true to the extremely high level Gibson is known for.

The aging of this particular model is subtle and closely resembles the wear seen on the original instrument with the "Felder Burst" finish accentuating the tight figuring to the maple top. There are little nuanced finishes throughout with nicks and dings associated with countless string changes, wear and verdigris peeking through the plating on the bridge and tailpiece to localized wear on the back from years of gigs.
