Gibson SJ-200 Original Vintage Sunburst

The King of the Flat-Tops in its most classic form: flamed maple, moustache bridge, and a voice that fills the room

The Gibson SJ-200 is arguably the most famous acoustic guitar in the world. Introduced in 1937 and since played by an impressive pantheon of American artists, the Super Jumbo has more than earned its nickname, King of the Flat-Tops. The SJ-200 Original returns to the specifications that made that model great: the carved Four Bar Moustache bridge, the engraved tortoise pickguard, the Mother-of-Pearl Graduated Crown inlays on the fingerboard and headstock, and the beautiful flamed maple back and sides that make the tone both bright and complex.

The Sitka Spruce top on flamed maple delivers the distinctive SJ-200 sound: enormous projection, full low tones, and a clarity in the high registers that sets the guitar apart from any other size. The traditionally hand-scalloped X-brace keeps the top free and dynamic, allowing the instrument to respond to every nuance of attack. The 25.5-inch scale length gives the strings slightly more tension than the shorter Gibson scale, contributing to the tight, defined tone.

The two-piece maple neck has a Round profile with a rosewood fretboard, MOP Graduated Crown inlays, and 20 frets. The nut and saddle are made of bone, and Gotoh Keystone gold tuners handle the tuning. The nitrocellulose Vintage Sunburst finish with multiple layers of binding completes an instrument that has been defining what a great acoustic guitar can be for almost ninety years.
