The largest PRS McCarty (594) collection in the Benelux can be found in Breda.
What makes the McCarty 594 so unique?
Since its introduction a few years ago, the McCarty 594 has become a true classic within the PRS line-up. The guitar takes the second part of its name from its 24,594-inch scale length, and is inspired by vintage LP-style guitars from the 1950s. However - as befits PRS - this traditional formula has been given a new, more reliable and innovative look. Consider, for example, the 58/15 LT pickups that can be switched from humbucker to single coil via push/pull potentiometers for a wide range of beautiful, vintage-oriented tones. These Low Turn humbuckers have a somewhat milder output than most double-coil pickups, which produces an incredibly warm sound with just the right amount of definition. These pickups have always been insane, but thanks to the new TCI tuning, the split-coil settings sound even more convincing. In addition, the McCarty 594 is equipped with the special "pattern vintage" neck profile. This profile is a combination of the finest '50s necks, but has the unique feature that it ends asymmetrically. This means that the neck at the higher frets is slightly thicker on the bass side than on the treble side, so that the neck will lie comfortably in the hand over its entire length. And also underestimate the effect of the PRS Two-Piece Cast Zinc bridge. This bridge sounds a lot fuller than many TOM bridges, and therefore has a huge impact on the overall sound. The traditional combination of a mahogany body and neck, maple top and rosewood fingerboard completes the whole. As for the 2020 adjustments, the latest 594 models feature Vintage-Style tuners (no more locking tuners), the aforementioned CAB finish, and TCI-tuned pickups. In our opinion, these upgrades give the guitar an even more traditional feel, without compromising on the modern and reliable character of PRS. Totally awesome!
The charm of the original McCarty model
The soul of the McCarty guitar is inspired by vintage LP style guitars from the 1950's. However - as befits PRS - this traditional formula has been given a new, more reliable and innovative look. Consider, for example, the 58/15 LT pickups that can be switched from humbucker to single coil via a push/pull potentiometer, for a wide range of beautiful, vintage-oriented tones. These Low Turn humbuckers have a somewhat milder output than most double-coil pickups, which produces an incredibly warm sound with just the right amount of definition. These pickups have always been insane, but thanks to the new TCI tuning, the split-coil modes sound even more convincing with even more sparkle. In addition, the McCarty is equipped with the special "pattern" neck profile. This profile is slightly thicker than the Pattern Thin and Regular profiles. And don't underestimate the effect of the PRS (Adjustable) Stoptail bridge with brass inserts. This bridge sounds a lot fuller than many other wraparound bridges, and therefore has a huge impact on the overall sound. The traditional combination of a mahogany body and neck, maple top and rosewood fingerboard completes the whole. As for the 2020 adjustments, the latest McCarty models feature the aforementioned CAB finish and TCI-tuned pickups. In our opinion, these upgrades give the guitar an even more traditional feel, without compromising on the modern and reliable character of PRS. Totally awesome!
This vintage-inspired PRS model is now also available in the S2 line!
2020 is off to a great start with the introduction of the PRS McCarty 594 Double Cut to the S2 line! Just like the Core version, the S2 version is equipped with the Pattern Vintage neck profile and a maple top. Thanks to the slightly thicker body than usual for a PRS, the 594 has an incredible amount of sustain and a super thick tone. The S2 McCarty 594 therefore immediately feels like coming home, as if the guitar has been played in for years. Totally awesome! In terms of hardware, a Two-Piece Bridge has been chosen which is made of zinc, and Vintage Style, non-locking tuners. In this way, the S2 McCarty 594 stays true to its vintage spirit. As with the Core 594, the S2 McCarty 594 features the widely recognized - and acclaimed - 58/15 "S" pickups. In our humble opinion, these pickups are among the very best new pickups on the market today. These humbuckers deliver a warm yet defined, vintage-correct tone reminiscent of the golden era of the PAF pickup.
At the heart of the McCarty 594 is a versatile, vintage-inspired instrument that delivers both fat humbucking sounds and true-to-life single-coil sounds. The 24,594" scale length, which is slightly shorter than usual on LP-inspired guitars, makes the guitar incredibly comfortable to play. The strings almost feel like butter! We've been able to feel and hear on the Core and Private Stock models what great sounds and great playability that delivers, and believe us: that is certainly the case with the new S2 versions.Best of all, PRS packages these features in a modern, reliable package so that you can play wherever, whenever also, you can take the stage with peace of mind without suffering from the annoying issues that some old guitars are known for, as befits Paul Reed Smith!
