Beautiful Fatoumata signature SG from Epiphone!
Fatoumata Diawara is a GRAMMY®-nominated guitarist, singer, songwriter, and actress internationally acclaimed for her unique blend of traditional Wassoulou sounds and modern international influences. Born in 1982 in Ivory Coast to Malian parents, her creative career began in France as an actress. However, music proved to be her true calling. With her 2011 debut album , Fatou , she definitively established herself, demonstrating not only her powerful voice but also her distinctive guitar playing.
Over the years, Fatoumata has collaborated with an impressive list of artists, including -M-, Angélique Kidjo, Oumou Sangaré, Damon Albarn, Paul McCartney, and Herbie Hancock. She also made a deep impression on screen, with roles in films like Timbuktu and Sia, The Dream of the Python . Whatever she does, her art is always sincere, groundbreaking, and inspiring.
Her love for the Epiphone Muse SG™ inspired a special collaboration with Epiphone: her very first signature model. With this, Fatoumata Diawara makes history as the first woman of color to own an Epiphone signature guitar . A milestone that not only underscores her musical legacy but also encourages a new generation of musicians to forge their own path.
The Epiphone Fatoumata Diawara SG is inspired by the Muse SG, but clearly imbued with her personal style. The mahogany body features her signature graphic artwork and is paired with a set mahogany neck with a comfortable Custom C profile. The bound rosewood fingerboard has 22 medium-jumbo frets and is finished with pearloid trapezoid inlays.
The luxurious look is enhanced by gold hardware, including a LockTone™ Tune-O-Matic™ bridge, LockTone™ Stop Bar tailpiece, and Epiphone locking tuners. The Graph Tech® nut ensures excellent tuning stability. The headstock features the Epiphone logo and Gibson Crown in mother-of-pearl, complemented by a two-layer truss rod cover with Fatoumata's signature in gold. Subtle yet striking details such as red pickup rings, Speed Knobs, backplates, and the switch tip complete the visual look.
Under the hood, we find two Epiphone Alnico Classic PRO humbuckers, connected to modern electronics. Each pickup has its own volume control with push/pull coil splitting, supplemented by two tone controls: one standard and one with push/pull phase switching for characterful out-of-phase sounds when both pickups are engaged. This makes the guitar surprisingly versatile, both on stage and in the studio.
