The REVV Northern Mauler blends tight high gain with a Swedish chainsaw

How do you give a tight metal sound that jagged edge that immediately stands out? The REVV Northern Mauler, developed with Glenn Fricker, places two distortion circuits side by side: a thick, direct amp tone and a raw chainsaw sound inspired by the classic Swedish metal tone. With the Blend control, you choose for yourself how much of each circuit you hear. This keeps a riff solid and defined, while adding exactly as much grit as the song requires.

Use only the Amp side for punchy high gain or dial in the chainsaw for more aggression and a grinding midrange. With the Blend in the middle, you hear both circuits equally; fully towards the chainsaw side, you can also use that sound to give an already overdriven amplifier extra character. At lower gain settings, there is still room for old-school solos and punk rhythms. This pedal is not a mandatory recipe for a single metal sound, but a way to find your own mix of control and chaos.

The analog Northern Mauler has global controls for Master Volume, Blend, and Giv'r, the gain for both circuits. Bite adjusts the highs and Growl the lows and mids of the Chainsaw side; the Amp side has separate Bass, Mids, and Treble controls. The connections on top are two 6.35mm jacks and the pedal features true bypass. Power is supplied via an external 9V adapter with a negative center and at least 20 mA; according to the product information, it does not run on a battery.
