The Walrus Audio Canvas Expression redefines what an expression pedal can be. Where classic expression pedals rely on strings, gears or a potentiometer, the Canvas Expression opts for a contactless magnetic position sensor. The result is a super smooth sweep, consistent response, and lifelong reliability without wear and tear. But this is more than an expression pedal — it's a command center for your pedalboard, synth rig, or DAW setup.

The two independently adjustable analog outputs (Jack A and Jack B) can each be configured separately as an expression output, switch output, or CV output. For expression, the Canvas Expression supports multiple wiring schemes including automatic detection: TRS (e.g., Yamaha, Korg), RTS (e.g., Walrus, Boss, Neural DSP, Chase Bliss, Strymon), and TS resistance mode (e.g., Line 6 M Series and HX Series). You can choose the taper and reverse the sweep direction, so that heel down or toe down becomes your minimum — ideal if you use multiple brands in one setup.

In addition to the analog outputs, the Canvas Expression is a full-fledged MIDI controller. The 1/8" TRS Type A MIDI In/Out and MIDI over USB-C work independently of each other. Through the Canvas Expression web editor (canvasexp.walrusaudio.io), you can assign MIDI CC and PC messages — up to 16 per MIDI output — and benefit from high-resolution 14-bit MIDI via USB-C for extra smooth parameter movements in your DAW or plugins. For modular systems and synths, the Canvas Expression offers CV with selectable ranges of 0–5V or 0–3.3V. Robustly built from steel and aluminum, designed and assembled in the USA.
