From K&F to Fender
In the early 1940s, when World War II was raging in Europe, Doc Kauffman decided to team up with one Leo Fender. The company that emerged from this became the K&F Manufacturing Corp. called. After focusing mainly on repairing instruments in the early days, Leo Fender decided that producing instruments was more profitable. The gentlemen went their separate ways, and Leo changed the name of the company to Fender. "And the rest, as you know, is history..."
The Story of the Nocaster
Fender was the very first to release a solid-body electric guitar in the early 1950s. Initially, these models would bear the name Broadcaster. Only a small problem arose, because Gretsch was simultaneously producing a drum kit called the BroadKaster. Fender was therefore kindly but urgently requested to drop this name. So it happened, and Fender took the name off these guitars. For example, the model was left unnamed, and the guitar was jokingly called “Nocaster”. The summer of 1951 was finally the moment that the guitar got a real name. The model was named the Telecaster, and under this name the instrument has naturally become legendary for its influence on the development of the electric guitar.
From Tele to Strat, and beyond
Despite the impact of the Telecaster, Leo Fender was still not satisfied with the instrument he had created. In the early years of the Tele, he was therefore fully engaged in developing the perfect guitar. And thanks to his own experience, combined with feedback from the artists who played it, Leo finally made his dream guitar in 1954: the Fender Stratocaster. The guitar was immediately praised for its versatility and specific sound, but despite Leo Fender's plan to replace the Tele with the Strat, the Telecaster kept its place in the catalog. And of course we are all very happy with that! In the years that followed, both instruments have become true icons for the guitar making and pop industry.
Fender bass guitars
In addition to electric guitars, Fender naturally also released a number of legendary bass guitars. First of all, the Precision Bass was launched, as a low-end counterpart to the Telecaster. After the debut of the more refined Stratocaster, the look of the P-Bass changed with it, most notably with the Sunburst finish and new pickguard look. In the early 1960s, the least legendary Jazz Bass was launched. With this model, Fender tried to focus more on the Jazz musician side, by fitting a narrower neck and rounder tone into the bass, among other things.
Fender is for every budget
Fender is legendary, of course there can be no misunderstanding about this. Ask a child to draw a guitar, and chances are he or she will draw a Stratocaster. The brand does its utmost to maintain its former glory, while continuing to innovate at the same time. Fender therefore has quite a few series, each with its own identity and price range. First of all, the American series, divided into the Original, Professional and Elite lines. As the name suggests, these instruments are built in America. Where the Original series focuses entirely on reproducing a vintage feel, the Professional and Elite series seek the combination of modern specifications and authentic looks. In addition, Fender also has a series of guitars that are manufactured in Mexico. These are the Classic, Player and Deluxe lines.
Fender Custom Shop
In addition to the standard American and Mexican models, Fender also has a line of more exclusive models. These guitars are produced under the Custom Shop name, named after the specially equipped workshop in California. Here the so-called Master Builders build the best of the best from Fender. And believe us, these guitars are real gems! With a special eye for detail and a good dose of historical awareness, the guitars are designed according to the old specifications. Subsequently, the guitars are built with the most beautiful types of wood and the best materials. The result can always rightfully be called impressive. The Custom Shop guitars therefore exude the authentic character of the original Fender instruments from the 50s and 60s.
