The Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Firebird brings back the legendary, revolutionary 1963 design in all its glory. With its striking reverse body and headstock, this model is instantly recognizable and inextricably linked to the original Firebird, designed at the time by the famous automotive designer Ray Dietrich. It was Gibson's first neck-through-body design and grew into a true rock icon.
This version remains true to that heritage with a traditional 9-ply mahogany and walnut neck-through-body construction. Because the neck extends through the body and all essential components – tuners, pickups, bridge, and tailpiece – are mounted on the same piece of wood, this provides exceptional resonance, rich warmth, and impressive sustain. The mahogany neck has a comfortable SlimTaper C-profile and features a bound rosewood fretboard with 22 medium jumbo frets and classic pearloid trapezoid inlays, ensuring fast, effortless playability and a stylish appearance.
Equipped with a set of ProBucker FB720 Firebird pickups with Alnico 2 magnets, built according to the original 60s specifications, this Firebird delivers the characteristic clear, powerful, and hum-free sound for which the model is known. Unlike mini-humbuckers, real Firebird pickups have a unique construction without traditional pole pieces, but with blade magnets in the coils themselves and a steel reflector plate. This ensures a distinct, sparkling, yet full sound that effortlessly cuts through a mix. The electronics are coupled to high-quality CTS potentiometers for maximum reliability and tone control.
The premium hardware consists of an Epiphone LockTone Tune-O-Matic bridge and LockTone Stop Bar tailpiece, combined with Grover Mini Rotomatic tuners and a Graph Tech nut for stable tuning and optimal sustain. The pickguard is finished with the iconic red Firebird logo, giving the whole an authentic vintage look.
