The Gibson Les Paul™ Special was originally designed as an enhanced version of the Les Paul Junior, featuring two P-90 pickups for added tonal versatility and refined details like fingerboard binding and a mother-of-pearl headstock logo . This positioned it squarely between the Les Paul Junior and the more luxurious Les Paul Standard. In 1958, the model transitioned to a double cutaway body , providing greater access to the higher frets, followed by further improvements in playing comfort in the early 1960s.

Epiphone takes this concept to the next level with the Les Paul Special Double Cut Figured . This model retains everything that makes the Les Paul Special so beloved, but adds a strikingly luxurious appearance. The double-cutaway mahogany body is finished with a beautiful AAA figured maple veneer , including a bound top , giving this guitar a distinctly premium character.

The mahogany neck has a fast-playing SlimTaper™ profile and features a bound rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets and acrylic dot inlays . The characteristic 60s Kalamazoo headstock is equipped with reliable Grover® Rotomatic® tuners and bears the Epiphone logo inlaid in mother-of-pearl .

In terms of electronics, this Les Paul Special deliberately deviates from the traditional design. Instead of P-90 single coils, the Les Paul Special Double Cut Figured is equipped with a pair of Epiphone ProBucker™ humbuckers : a ProBucker 2 in the neck and a slightly hotter ProBucker 3 in the bridge position. This produces a more powerful, modern tone palette that lends itself perfectly to heavy rhythms and blazing solos. Both pickups have their own volume and tone controls , combined with a 3-way switch for maximum flexibility.
