VOS Nitro Finish, Fixed Bridge, Serial ...4026

The Hummingbird, which invented the square-shoulder acoustic guitar in 1960, here in a uniquely numbered Custom Shop model

The Gibson Hummingbird was introduced in 1960 as the brand's very first square-shoulder model and immediately secured a place in music history. Its Heritage Cherry Sunburst finish, hummingbird motif on the headstock, and engraved pickguard have since become inextricably linked with the Hummingbird's identity. This Custom Shop model with a serial number ending in 4026 is a hand-crafted reissue that follows the earliest 1960 specifications as faithfully as possible, including a fixed bridge and Thin Finish with a hand-rubbed VOS process.

The thermally aged Sitka Spruce top has an openness and responsiveness that new guitars lack. The mahogany back and sides give the instrument the warm, direct midrange for which the Hummingbird is so beloved: full enough for vigorous strumming, loose and responsive enough for softer playing styles. The fixed bridge ensures a direct tonal coupling consistent with the original 1960 construction.

The mahogany neck features a Comfort Contour profile with a rosewood fretboard, MOP parallelogram inlays, and 20 frets over a 24.75-inch scale length. The nut, saddle, and bridge pins are made of bone, and Grover Keystone tuners handle the tuning. The nitrocellulose Heritage Cherry Sunburst lacquer with VOS finish gives this instrument the worn look of a vintage model, straight from the period when the Hummingbird conquered the world. Supplied in a period-correct Gibson hardshell case.
