The Gibson Custom Shop 1964 SG Standard makes mahogany and Vibrola sing
This Gibson Custom Shop 1964 SG Standard brings together the sleek shape and immediate response of an iconic SG with refined details from the historic model. The solid mahogany body, Cherry Red VOS finish, and Maestro Vibrola give it a distinct vintage aesthetic, while the Custombucker pickups shape the character for players who want to draw expression from every stroke. This is an SG that not only stands out in the hand, but also invites your playing to breathe freely and dynamically.
The two unpotted Custombucker Alnico 3 pickups react vividly to your touch and volume knob. Expect an open, spatial humbucker sound with the familiar PAF-inspired punch, from bright chords to a solid, singing lead tone when you crank up the amp. The Maestro Vibrola adds subtle pitch modulation for chords and melody lines, without taking away from the SG's direct playing feel. With the three-way switch and individual volume and tone controls, you can quickly tune the sound to your amp and musical style.
The mahogany neck features a Traditional 1960s SlimTaper C profile and joins the body with a traditional hide-glue joint. The Indian rosewood fretboard has cellulose nitrate trapezoid inlays and 22 medium jumbo frets, finished for precise intonation. The scale length is 24.75 inches. An ABR-1 bridge works in tandem with the Maestro Vibrola, while Kluson Single Line Double Ring tuners and aged nickel hardware complete the vintage execution. The nitrocellulose VOS finish gives the instrument a subtly aged look, and the brown and pink five-latch Lifton Reissue case provides appropriate protection.
For those seeking a characterful Custom Shop SG with historic details, an expressive humbucker sound, and the freedom of a Vibrola, this 1964 Reissue is an inspiring choice.
