The legendary 1960 Hummingbird: Heritage Cherry Sunburst with Murphy Lab aging and thermally aged spruce top
The Gibson Murphy Lab 1960 Hummingbird Light Aged Heritage Cherry Sunburst is one of the most iconic acoustic guitars Gibson makes. The Hummingbird was introduced in 1960 and has since been the instrument of choice for singer-songwriters, folk and rock musicians seeking a rich, warm tone with a perfect balance of bass and treble. The characteristic Heritage Cherry Sunburst finish, the famous hummingbird inlay on the headstock and the floral motif on the pickguard make this guitar unmistakable.
The thermally aged Sitka Spruce top is the heart of this guitar. Thermal treatment simulates the natural aging of the wood over decades, resulting in a more open, responsive sound that new guitars cannot match. The mahogany back and sides give the guitar warmth and body, while the Murphy Lab Light Aged nitrocellulose lacquer completes the authentic vintage look. The mahogany neck with rounded profile and bone nut sits comfortably in the hand.
Specs: thermally aged Sitka Spruce top, mahogany back and sides, mahogany neck with rounded profile, rosewood fingerboard with Mother-of-pearl parallelogram inlays, 20 frets, bone nut, traditional belly-up rosewood bridge and open back tuners with cream buttons. Delivered in a period correct case.
The Hummingbird that only gets better with age. That's precisely the promise of Murphy Lab.
