The Supro 1696RT Black Magick Reverb combines two preamp circuits with spring reverb
The Supro 1696RT Black Magick Reverb Combo is a 25-watt tube combo for guitarists seeking a wide tonal range in a single amplifier. You can use the two independent preamp circuits separately for a more traditional tone, or combine them for a fuller, thicker sound. This allows the Black Magick to offer clear, open tones as well as richer overdrive, with a response that is easily shaped by your picking dynamics and guitar volume.
When using a single preamp circuit, the amp sounds more traditional with less emphasis on the midrange. Switching both circuits together results in a fuller sound with more body. That choice makes the 1696RT interesting for players who like to switch between different amp characters without complicating their setup. The separate Volume 1 and Volume 2 controls help you adjust those circuits to your taste.
The specially designed Supro BD12 speaker forms the basis of the combo. The built-in spring reverb uses three springs for a spacious, lively reverb. There is also tremolo, driven by a revamped tube-bias LFO design that, according to the product specifications, can work up to twice as fast as the original Black Magick. The controls include Volume 1, Volume 2, Treble, Bass, Speed, Depth, Reverb, and Master.
The preamp uses four 12AX7 tubes and one 12AT7; the power amp has two 6973 tubes. The combo has no effects loop and offers speaker outputs for 16, 8, and 4 ohms. The poplar cabinet is finished in Black Rhino Hide. With dimensions of 52 x 47.6 x 22.2 cm and a weight of 18 kg, the Supro 1696RT remains a complete, portable tube combo.
